No more fuel shortage at OR Thambo

The shortage of jet fuel at OR Tambo International Airport has been resolved, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula has reassured this following experienced shortages at the airport recently, causing at least one airline, US United Airlines to reportedly cancel flights over the weekend.

This is partially due to the floods that ravaged parts of KwaZulu-Natal damaging transport infrastructure which affected the jet fuel supply chain from Durban to Johannesburg.

Mbalula said the issue was resolved after a meeting with the mineral resources ministry and Airports Company South Africa.

“The war between Russia and Ukraine has led to rising prices and supplied uncertainty, leaving some airlines such as the United to pull out from rendering services at the airport,” the Minister said.

While reaching South Africa is not a problem, United did not wish to send aircraft and crews to Johannesburg only to have them stuck and unable to return.
